A first work by Eleanor Fortescue Brickdale for Orsay
9/1/24 - Acquisition - Paris, Musée d’Orsay - As we have pointed out on several occasions, the Musée d’Orsay’s collection of British art, which is still limited, is a major focus of its acquisitions policy. It was joined only recently by a new portrait by John Everett Millais (see the news item of 22/6/23) and, before that, two watercolours by Arthur George Walker and Arthur Severn (see the news items of 25/2/22 and 9/2/23) and a stained glass window by Burne-Jones and Morris (see the news item of 9/12/20). Donated by the Meyer Louis-Dreyfus collection - in support of artists from foreign schools - through the intermediary of the Société des Amis des Musées d’Orsay et de l’Orangerie, a new painting has also been added to the collection, providing the corpus with a new artist, Eleanor…
