14/01/19 - Acquisitions - Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum - «Géant de Padoue» ou «Samson de Patagonie» Giovanni Battista Belzoni (1778-1823) mena une vie d’aventures et fut l’un des pionniers de l’égyptologie. C’est probablement son portrait, peint par Jan Adam Kruseman, qui vient d’entrer au Fitzwilliam Museum, donné par la galerie Daniel Katz, en l’honneur de Tim Knox qui fut directeur du musée de 2013 à 2018.

Né à Harlem, Kruseman se rendit à Amsterdam où il fut l’élève de son cousin Cornelis Kruseman dans les années 1819-1822, il se forma ensuite à Bruxelles, travaillant auprès de…
