Un panneau de pierres dures acquis par Norwich Castle
17/11/22 - Acquisition - Norfolk, Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery - Une étrange peinture intitulée Le Trésor Paston, réalisée par un artiste hollandais anonyme au début des années 1660 (ill. 1), met en scène un capharnaüm d’objets précieux, instruments de musique, aiguières, artificialia, naturalia, au milieu desquels surgissent deux figures étrangement disposées, un page noir et une jeune fille. Ce tableau constitue un rare témoignage de la fabuleuse collection qu’une riche famille anglaise, les Paston, conservait dans sa résidence de campagne d’Oxnead Hall, dans le comté de Norfolk. La peinture fut probablement commandée par sir William Paston (vers 1610-1663) ou par son fils sir Robert Paston (1631-1683).
