14/9/18 - Acquisition - Cambridge, The Fitzwilliam Museum - Sévère, voire revêche, de marbre en tout cas, la reine Vitoria est portraiturée par l’un des plus grands sculpteurs anglais du XIXe siècle, Alfred Gilbert. Son buste fut commandé en 1887, afin de marquer le jubilé d’or de la reine, par l’Army and Navy Club de Londres, où il est resté jusqu’en décembre 2017. Mis en vente chez Sotheby’s, il aurait dû être acquis par le Metropolitan Museum si le Ministère des arts ne lui avait pas refusé son certificat d’exportation.
