A second Crucifixion by ter Brugghen for American museums

27/9/25 - Acquisition - Houston, The Museum of Fine Arts - During the 2020 edition of TEFAF, one of the most beautiful paintings — which we had in fact reproduced in our article — was unquestionably the Crucifixion with the Virgin and Saint John by Hendrick ter Brugghen (ill. 1), on view at the stand of the Amells and Adam Williams Fine Art galleries.
At one point, a rumour circulated that the Louvre might be interested. Unfortunately, the Parisian museum did not acquire it… And it was ultimately the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston that succeeded in acquiring this masterpiece, sold by Adam Williams.
