Le musée de Leeds achète un tableau de Grimshaw

15/3/22 - Acquisition - Leeds, Art Gallery - L’artiste a choisi de peindre un clair de lune au-dessus d’une forêt de cheminées d’usines, dans le port industriel de Leeds. Avec ce paysage de 1879, Grimshaw transforme une réalité sociale, la grève des ouvriers, en un sujet romantique. Une femme, immobile sur le quai, contemple les eaux paisibles et lustrées de l’Aire, à côté d’une poignée d’hommes qui semblent avoir une discussion animée.
