A self-portrait by Caillebotte enters the Musée d’Orsay

31/1/26 - Acquisition - Paris, Musée d’Orsay - The painting was shown in 2021 in the exhibition « Caillebotte, impressionist and modern » presented at the Fondation Gianadda, and it even served as the main illustration in the review we published of it (see the article). It was also displayed in the recent retrospective organised by the Musée d’Orsay (see the article). It will now be preserved thanks to a dation (acceptance in lieu), which, let us recall, is a way of paying a tax in kind, notably on inheritance or wealth.
This is thus the third painting by this artist to enter the museum’s collection since 2019 through this mode of acquisition (see the news item of 2/9/2019 and that of 1/9/22), with four other works by him added during the same period, three by bequest [1] (same news…
