3/10/25 - Acquisition - Marseille, Musée des Beaux-Arts - An important painting by Louis Finson, depicting the Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian (ill. 1), has just been donated to the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Marseille, where it will join another work by the artist, the copy [1] of the Magdalene in Ecstasy painted by Caravaggio, whose original remains to be rediscovered, despite several recent attempts to identify it with works held in private collections.
Two Roman copies after a lost painting by Caravaggio depicting the Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian are also attributed to Finson.
