Two works by Gustaf Fjæstad for North American museums

1/10/25 - Acquisitions - Ottawa, National Gallery of Canada and Chicago, Art Institute - The National Gallery of Canada is expanding its European collections with a new Scandinavian artist. After the Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi (see the news item of 13/2/17), the museum now welcomes the Swede Gustaf Fjæstad, with one of his famous winter landscapes, Water Reflection (ill. 1). The painting was acquired from the Italian gallery Antonacci Lapiccirella Fine Art, which had presented it at the most recent edition of the Tefaf, alongside another work by the artist, a Moonlight that had also caught our attention (see the article). The new painting will very soon be on view to the public, as part of the themed exhibition “Winter Count: Embracing the Cold”, opening at the end of November.
