8/6/12 - Acquisition - Londres, National Portrait Gallery - La National Portrait Gallery vient d’acquérir un portrait daté de 1792 représentant un travesti. Il s’agit du célèbre Charles de Beaumont, chevalier d’Eon (1728-1810), qui mena une brillante carrière militaire et diplomatique. Il travailla notamment pour les services secrets de Louis XV, fut envoyé à la cour de Russie puis à Londres, en 1762, où il collabora au traité de Paris en 1763, et fut enfin décoré de l’ordre de Saint-Louis.
Il défraya la chronique en s’habillant en femme - son nom donnera d’ailleurs…
