Two portraits by Reynolds for Waddesdon Manor

10/2/26 - Acquisitions - Aylesbury, Waddesdon Manor - Acquired through the Acceptance in Lieu scheme, two paintings by Joshua Reynolds have been permanently allocated to the National Trust to be displayed at Waddesdon Manor, where they had already been kept on loan since 1995. Like the King David by Il Guercino (see the news item of 24/9/25) and the marble relief by John Deare (see the news item of 25/9/25), also recently offered as Acceptance in Lieu to the British state, the Portrait of Joanna Leigh, wife of Richard Bennett Lloyd (ill. 1) and David Garrick between Tragedy and Comedy (ill. 2) come from the estate of Jacob Rothschild, who passed away in February 2024.
