The woodwork of an 18th-century chapel at auction
On Wednesday 17 June, the woodwork of a small 18th-century chapel is to be sold at auction in Bordeaux, although its location is not specified, other than that the meeting point will be in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. The buyer will have to come and « dismantle on site ». The photographs accompanying the listing on the Interencheres website (ill. 1) show the considerable heritage interest of this ensemble. It is clearly a small private oratory.
The association Sites & Monuments conducted an investigation based on other items included in the same sale, portraits of the Destanne de Bernis family, counsellor at the Court of Appeal of Agen (1833–1883). An internet search led it to a manor house whose photographs…
