A painting returns to Versailles
27/9/25 - Acquisition - Versailles, Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon - A painting by Charles-Antoine Coypel, once part of Madame de Pompadour’s collection, is about to return to the Marquise’s apartment on the second floor of the central wing. Entitled Children Playing at the Toilette, the canvas was acquired from a private collector at the beginning of the summer. Documented at Versailles, and listed in 1764 in Madame de Pompadour’s posthumous inventory among the “Tableaux, dessins, estampes rapportés de Versailles au dit Hôtel de Pompadour à Paris (hôtel d’Évreux)”, the work entered the Marquise’s collection at a date and under circumstances that remain unknown.
