Illness and quarrel in Seville

This is a perfect evocation of waiting. The air is dull, weary, tired; three people sit in a row, squeezed between two doors, relegated to a corner of the vestibule and the canvas: an elderly resigned woman, a worried mother leaning over her infant, a worker with his arm in a sling staring into space. A little girl appears in silhouette in the doorway, scarcely livelier than the others. All stages of life are thus evoked in this waiting room.
