4/4/23 - Acquisition - London, Leighton House - Although Frederic Leighton’s masterpiece Flaming June is not in its possession, the museum dedicated to the artist, housed in his astonishing London home, does have several preparatory studies. In addition to the drawings, an oil sketch recently joined the Leighton House collections (ill. 1). This is the only known colour study in oil for this composition. Sold by Gallery 19C, it was purchased by Sir David Vevey, Chairman of the Friends of the Museum, donated to the British State under the Cultural Gifts Scheme in 2023 and long-term loaned to Leighton House.
