5/4/24 - Acquisition - Amsterdam, Rijksmuseum - The publication by the Rijksmuseum of its bulletin gives us the opportunity to look back at some of its acquisitions that we have not yet mentioned. Presented by Wildenstein & Co at the 2023 edition of Tefaf Maastricht, a painting by Maurice Denis quickly caught the attention of the Amsterdam museum, which acquired it with the support of the VriendenLoterij. Depicting a funeral in the town of Saint-Germain-en-Laye so dear to the artist (ill. 1) - a local attachment recently highlighted by the Musée départemental Maurice Denis on the occasion of its successful reopening (see article) - the canvas bears a second composition on the reverse (ill. 2).
