First Millet painting acquired by the Van Gogh Museum
22/11/23 - Acquisition - Amsterdam, Van Gogh Museum - While the Van Gogh Museum already featured a painting by Jean-François Millet in its permanent collection, this Girl Carrying Water was on loan from the neighboring Rijksmuseum, and only one engraving by the artist was in its own collection. A painting now completes it, Peasant Spreading Manure, acquired by the museum, thanks to the support of the VriendenLoterij and members of the Yellow House Circle, from private American collectors via the New York gallery Coleman Bancroft LLC.
