29/12/14 - Acquisitions - Richmond, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts - Le Virginia Museum of Fine Arts vient d’acquérir deux peintures l’une du XVIIe, l’autre du XIXe siècle.
La première est La Visitation de Mattia Preti (ill. 1), l’œuvre date de la période romaine du peintre. Preti en effet arriva autour de 1630 dans la Ville éternelle où il retrouva son frère Gregorio avec qui il collabora. Ce tableau de jeunesse est marqué par l’influence du Caravage et de ses suiveurs, partisans de la «manfrediana methodus» : le peintre met en scène des figures à mi-corps dans un espace indéfini,…
