A masterpiece from the Ansbach manufactory for the Ansbach residence
16/1/25 - Acquisition - Ansbach, Résidence d’Ansbach - The Bavarian Castles Administration (Die Bayerische Verwaltung der staatlichen Schlösser, Gärten und Seen) has announced the acquisition of an exceptional surtout from the 18th-century porcelain from the Ansbach manufactory (ill. 1 to 5) for one of its palaces, the Ansbach Residence. Twenty years after its reappearance on the Paris art market, where it fetched €94,000 at the Christies auction of Baron Hottinguer’s former collection in December 2003, it is now returning to the princely residence that it probably furnished. As the press release states, it may well have come from the collection of Christian Frédéric Charles-Alexandre, the last Margrave of Ansbach and founder of the Ansbach porcelain manufactory in 1758.
