A Dauphin biscuit porcelain for Versailles

8/7/26 - Acquisition - Versailles, Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon - It was the indispensable Société des Amis de Versailles that first announced the acquisition of this charming biscuit porcelain (ill. 1 and 2), which promptly appeared on the museum’s collections website. Offered for sale by Pescheteau-Badin at the Hôtel Drouot on 27 May, it was knocked down for €68,000 (hammer price), and everyone in the saleroom fully expected it to be immediately preempted by the museum. The object will quickly find its natural place there, joining other recent acquisitions such as the fine drawings by Moreau le Jeune preempted in March during the Veil-Picard sale (see the news item of 6 May 2026), depicting the festivities held in Paris following the birth of the Dauphin.
