The National Gallery gains a Dutch still life

27/5/25 - Acquisition - London, National Gallery - Also as part of its bicentenary celebrations (see previous news items), and as it unveiled its new display at the beginning of May (article to follow), the National Gallery in London announced a new series of acquisitions, to which we will return, starting with a rare and large-scale Still Life at a Banquet by Dutch artist Floris van Dijck. As the museum states in its press release, it was acquired from a private collector through Sotheby’s for £2.9 million (around €3.4 million). This landmark purchase was made possible by a generous bequest from Martha Doris Bailey and Richard Hillman Bailey, and support from the National Gallery Trust.
