The Cour des comptes forgets Viollet-le-Duc’s stained-glass windows

The Cour des comptes has just issued its third report on the restoration site of Notre-Dame and on the operation of the Établissement public. Overall, it is more of a favourable verdict, which is not so common from this institution, usually rather severe. It is true that, given the enormous resources allocated to this restoration, it was relatively easy to meet deadlines, the “quoi qu’il en coûte” policy — although the phrase was never pronounced here — having constantly applied.

We ourselves acknowledged, after its reopening, the quality of the work carried out, at least as it appears today (see the article). One must hope that the very short deadline imposed by the decision to reopen in 2024 will not, in the long term, cause damage.
