Un tableau offert au Thomas Cole National Historic Site
23/10/20 - Acquisition - Catskill (État de New York), The Thomas Cole National Historic Site - Lorsqu’il se mit à parcourir les rives de l’Hudson River à partir de 1825, Thomas Cole chercha un lieu où résider ponctuellement. Il loua une chambre à Catskill, dans une maison appelée Cedar Grove, construite entre 1815 et 1816 et habitée par la famille Thomson. Il finit par s’y installer définitivement lorsqu’en 1836 il épousa Maria Bartow, la nièce de John A. Thomson. C’est là qu’il peignit nombre de ses chefs-d’œuvre.
La maison a traversé les siècles. La propriété fut déclarée National Historic Site [1] en 1999 est ouverte au public depuis 2001, consacrant régulièrement des expositions aux artistes de l’Hudson River School, cette école bien informelle de peintres qui ne se connurent pas…
