Five of the seven snuffboxes stolen from Cognacq-Jay have been recovered
14/10/25 - Robbery - Paris, Musée Cognacq-Jay - The thefts of gold and silver artworks, which will probably be melted down for their metal value, are becoming increasingly frequent, and we will return to this subject very soon. However, we were among those who did not believe that the armed robbery at the Musée Cognacq-Jay, in which seven snuffboxes of exceptional art-historical importance were stolen, was carried out with the aim of dismantling them (see the news item of 21/11/24). This gave reason to hope that they might, perhaps, be recovered one day.
That day has now come, less than a year later — and therefore sooner than expected — at least for five of them, which have just been recovered intact. A press release from Paris Musées [1] provides the list, which we reproduce below…
