A Beaubrun painting preempted by Versaille
21/5/25 - Acquisition - Versailles, Musée national des châteaux de Versailles et de Trianon - It was expected that the Château de Versailles would not let this Beaubrun painting slip away: put up for sale by Osenat on 18 May, it was preempted for €494,000 (ill. 1). Monumental in size and composition, this double portrait of Anne of Austria and Louis XIV clearly had a political function: to assert the stability of the monarchy, which had been weakened by the death of Louis XIII in 1643 and the age of his successor, who was still a minor and far from reaching adulthood.
1. Charles (1604-1692) and Henri (1603-1677) Beaubrun
