Achat de l’Adam d’Hendrick Goltzius par le musée d’Hartford

2/4/05 - Acquisition - Hartford, Wadsworth Atheneum - On sait que les musées américains sont amateurs de peintures maniéristes hollandaises, notamment de Joachim Wtewael [1]. Eric Zafran, le conservateur d’Hartford, peut se féliciter d’avoir mis la main sur un rare tableau de Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617) représentant Adam (ill.1). Déjà célèbre et reconnu comme un dessinateur et graveur virtuose, cet artiste ne prit les pinceaux qu’à l’âge de 38 ans, ce qui explique que seulement une cinquantaine de tableaux de sa main soient aujourd’hui connus.
