31/10/24 - Acquisition - New Haven, Yale University Art Gallery - As we learned after the publication of our recent news item devoted to the large painting by Francesco Hayez acquired by the Yale University Art Gallery through the Galerie Canesso in Paris [1]. This first purchase of a painting by the eminent representative of Italian Romanticism was quickly followed by a second from Benappi Fine Art in London. Following Doge Marin Faliero Accusing Michele Steno of Insulting the Honor of the Dogaressa, a later Self-portrait in the guise of a Renaissance condottiere with the same historicist influence entered the American museum’s European collections.
