A painting by Eva Gonzales acquired by the National Gallery

All the versions of this article: English , français

27/5/24 - Acquisition - Londres, National Gallery - Kept in a private collection for nearly seventy years, a painting by Eva Gonzalès, La Psyché (The Full-length Mirror), was bought by the National Gallery in London thanks to the support of its patrons (ill. 1). The artist is very poorly represented in English collections, with only Bristol Museum holding a painting, The Donkey Ride, painted c. 1880-1882. French museums are not much richer. It has to be said that she died at the age of 34, so her production is relatively limited, and we can therefore look forward to her entry into the Petit Palais in 2021 (see the news item of 1/4/21).
