A drawing by Aert Cosijn for Haarlem
28/7/26 - Acquisition - Haarlem, Teylers Museum - One of the most captivating drawings shown at the last TEFAF in Maastricht (see the article) was by Aert Cosijn, an artist about whom virtually nothing is known — a delightful paradox of which art history remains fond — apart from his dazzling precision. Although fewer than ten works by his hand are known, the reappearance of this one (ill. 1) on the stand of Talabardon & Gautier was not missed by the Teylers Museum in Haarlem, which acquired it with the support of Matthijs de Clercq, the Dutch collector closely associated with the museum, who had already exhibited a selection [1] of some of the finest sheets he had previously enabled the museum to acquire, before repeating the gesture in 2022 (see the news item of 23/6/22) with a…
