A new Domenico Piola for the Palazzo Spinola

20/10/23 - Acquisition - Genoa, Palazzo Spinola - A new painting by Domenico Piola has been added to the collections of the Palazzo Spinola in Genoa, acquired by the Italian Ministry of Culture from the Galerie Canesso in Paris. Kept in private hands in Lugano since its acquisition on the London art market in 1987 [1], this Nativity was presented publicly at the exhibition Domenico Piola 1628-1703. Percorsi di pittura barocca organised by the Musei di Strada Nuova in Genoa from 13 October 2017 to 7 January 2018. It joins the important corpus devoted to the golden century of Genoese painting at the Palazzo Spinola, which includes a fine group of paintings by Domenico Piola as well as those by his older brother Pellegro Piola, with whom he trained, and one of his sons, Antonio Maria…
