As part of an art history research dissertation, I am studying the relationship between the painter Louis Français (1814-1897) and his collector Alfred Hartmann (1826-1898).
The former was a French artist known for his landscape paintings and his success at the Salon. The latter was an Alsatian collector and industrialist.

In particular, I’m trying to retrace the itinerary of the works in Alfred Hartmann’s collection following the sale after his death in 1899. I am also looking for the visuals corresponding to the 80 works executed by Louis Français described in this catalog.
In addition, I am also looking for any private archives (letters, manuscripts, photographs, invoices, contracts...) on Louis Français or Alfred Hartmann - even simple mentions.

I would be extremely grateful to anyone willing to inform me of the existence of works or documents related to my research topic.
