Gustave Courtois at Galerie La Nouvelle Athènes
13/6/26 - Art market - Paris - This is a new monographic exhibition presented by Galerie La Nouvelle Athènes, well known to our readers. The artist whose twenty-nine small early paintings are on display, and for sale, is Gustave Courtois.
Known in particular as a portrait painter, this pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme, a close friend of Pascal Dagnan-Bouveret who, like him, failed the Prix de Rome competition, was also a history painter, as this small exhibition demonstrates. The works come from his studio estate, which was dispersed in 2009.
