Egypt comes to Malmaison with the acquisition of a Chartier painting

2/7/26 - Acquisition - Rueil-Malmaison, Musée national des châteaux de Malmaison et Bois-Préau - Curiously, the two main figures, placed at the centre of the composition, turn their heads to the right, so that the viewer does not see their faces. They appear to be searching for their way, attentive to the direction indicated by a man. This painting by Henri Georges Chartier, executed in 1899, was sold for €10,400 (including fees) in favour of the Château de Malmaison at the Osenat auction on 21 June. It shows General Bonaparte on horseback, guided by a Nubian in the Egyptian desert, followed by his soldiers under the command of Kléber and Desaix. An aquarelle — preparatory study or ricordo? — also appeared on the market.
