What if the Mona Lisa were moved to Fontainebleau?

The Louvre therefore had to postpone the choice of the architects in charge of the “Grande Colonnade” project, without for the moment calling it into question (see the news item of 6/2/26). The museum, as we know, justifies this in particular by the need to display the Mona Lisa (ill. 1) separately, removing it from the Salle des États, in order to avoid saturating the Mollien wing. While this is unquestionably a problem that must be resolved, the solution chosen — to hang the work underground — is an absurd idea.
