19/8/23 - Disappearance - The information comes from the newspaper L’Opinion and was tweeted less than an hour ago, and we have been able to confirm it. General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who had been appointed to head the newly-created public establishment in charge of restoring Notre-Dame, died yesterday, Friday 18 August, following a fatal fall in the mountains during an excursion to his native Pyrenees.

A priori, General Georgelin was not destined to be the subject of an obituary in La Tribune de l’Art, even though, as Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honour, he was behind several restorations that we reported on here, one a success, that of the former royal abbey of Saint-Denis…
