25/11/15 - Acquisition - Londres, National Gallery - Une jeune fille est agenouillée sur un prie-dieu, devant une peinture religieuse, elle a posé ses mains jointes sur une Bible ouverte entre deux bougies. Elle tourne la tête vers le spectateur, mais ne semble pas avoir été interrompue par lui dans sa prière, elle paraît plutôt l’inviter à la rejoindre.
Ce tableau de l’Écossais David Wilkie a récemment reparu sur le marché : il avait été mis aux enchères à New York chez Doyle le 29 janvier 2014 où il avait été repéré, identifié et acheté par le marchand londonien…
