Un Autoportrait de George Frederic Watts acquis par son musée

4/8/14 - Acquisition - Compton, The Watts Gallery - Le 17 juin dernier, chez Christie’s Londres, la Watts Gallery de Compton dans le Surrey, musée dédié à l’œuvre de George Frederic Watts, a acquis pour 134 500 £ (incluant les frais) un autoportrait de l’artiste, vu aux deux-tiers, portant un ample vêtement rouge, sans doute une robe d’avocat vénitien. L’œuvre date de 1853, alors que Watts avait séjourné à Venise, et qu’il était en train d’exécuter, au Palais de Justice de Lincoln’s Inn, à Londres, sa grande fresque intitulée Justice : un hémicycle de législateur.
