1/6/06 – Acquisition – Washington, National Gallery of Art – A la vente Christie’s Paris du 24 juin 2004, comme dans l’exposition The Arts of France from François Ier to Napoléon chez Wildenstein à l’automne dernier (voir l’article sur ce site), l’Autoportrait de Nicolas de Largillière de 1707 (ill. ) s’imposait avec évidence comme un chef-d’œuvre, maniant à la fois l’apparat et la simplicité de la présentation, l’un des plus beaux et des plus importants portraits de son époque.
