Marauders in Colmar

10/2/25 – Acquisitions – Colmar, Musée Bartholdi – The grape thieves are a funny bunch, flexing their muscles but bending under the weight of their plunder! The large wicker basket they are carrying, facing each other, does indeed have a hole in the bottom and is leaking the precious grapes, essential elements of the procession of Bacchus of which they themselves are a part. They are, in fact, fauns, one young, the other older, with their little goose tails and pointed ears. They now form part of the collections of the Musée Bartholdi in Colmar [1], where they join several other examples of the same model, thanks to the contribution of the Société des Amis du Musée Bartholdi (SAMBA) [2] and the Fonds Régional d’Acquisition des Musées (FRAM), a joint funding scheme of the Regional…
