Pendant longtemps, les plus grands musées ont émerveillé le monde en magnifiant la peinture vénitienne du XVIe siècle. Il n’y en avait d’ailleurs que pour Le Titien, Le Tintoret et Véronèse. Les Jacopo Bassano, Lorenzo Lotto, Paris Bordone, Palma Giovane, Giambattista Zelotti ou Lamberto Sustris, ont eux, été trop souvent relégués dans la deuxième division du Cinquecento.
Aujourd’hui, le Musée Correr à Venise, rend hommage - 33 peintures, 21 dessins et 32 gravures - à un autre artiste retombé dans un anonymat presque troublant : Andrea Schiavone .

Cette première rétrospective réhabilite enfin le beau peintre vénitien, ami de l’Arétin, qui fut encensé par les plus influents historiens de l’art du XVIIIe siècle.
