27/9/13 - Acquisition - Birmingham, Museum & Art Gallery - Le Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery vient d’acheter, auprès de la galerie Philip Mould & Co de Londres [1], un portrait d’Erasmus Darwin (ill. 1), grand-père de Charles Darwin, peint par Joseph Wright of Derby. L’œuvre avait été vendue le 9 juillet 2009 par Sotheby’s en même temps que deux autres tableaux du même artiste figurant aussi des membres de la famille Darwin : William Alvey Darwin, grand-oncle de Charles et frère d’Erasmus, et la femme de William Alvey, Jane Darwin, avec son fils William Brown Darwin.
