Un tableau de Giovanni David acquis par le Musée Fabre
12/12/10 – Acquisition – Montpellier, Musée Fabre – En novembre 2010, le Musée Fabre a acheté, Galerie Michel Descours à Lyon, un beau tableau de Giovanni David, Tobie enterrant les morts (ill. 1). Cet artiste génois, mort à 41 ans, fut l’élève de Domenico Corvi à Rome où il arriva en 1770. Graveur et décorateur de théâtre (il travailla notamment à la Fenice), il est aussi l’auteur de toiles à l’inspiration gothique, influencées notamment par l’art de Füssli dont il avait pu connaître les œuvres à Rome où celui-ci avait vécu entre 1770 et 1778.
