The Sorolla Museum acquires a new painting
8/11/23 - Acquisition - Madrid, Museo Sorolla - Sorolla was not always the "painter of light" appreciated for his dazzling beach scenes (see article). One example of this is the Head of Saint Anthony (ill. 1), which was preempted by the Spanish State and sold for €28,000 hammer price at the Setdart auction in Barcelona on 14 September; it had already been sold at Bonhams in 2017. An early work painted in 1883, it has joined the collections of the Sorolla Museum.
