Le premier, donné en 2008 et qui représente un Bachi-Bouzouk, mercenaire de l’armée ottomane (ill. 1), est un chef-d’œuvre de Jean-Léon Gérôme [2]. L’artiste voyagea en Palestine et en Egypte en 1868 et retourna dans ce dernier pays l’année suivante.
