Deux portraits de Gainsborough réunis à Munich

23/7/22 - Acquisition - Munich, Neue Pinakothek - Le musée bavarois vient de réussir un exploit peu banal : réunir un couple divorcé depuis la fin du XVIIIe siècle ! Fin juin, la Neue Pinakothek de Munich annonçait, en guise de bonne nouvelle estivale, l’entrée dans ses collections du portrait de Thomas Hibbert peint en 1785 par Thomas Gainsborough. Resté en possession des descendants du modèle, récemment prêté à la Gainsborough House de Sudbury, ce beau tableau a finalement été acquis pour 1 800 000 € par la Pinakotheks-Verein [1] qui avait déjà assuré l’achat du portrait de son épouse, née Sophia Boldero, en 1978.
