6/3/14 - Acquisition - Washington, Smithsonian American Art Museum - Connu pour ses portraits mondains, dont il apprit les ressorts auprès de Carolus-Duran et pour lesquels il fit preuve d’une virtuosité indéniable, John Singer Sargent ne peignit pas seulement des femmes élégantes posant dans des intérieurs raffinés ; il traita des sujets plus prosaïques, comme en témoignent les ânes dans une étable, tableau récemment acquis par le Smithsonian American Art Museum auprès d’un collectionneur privé.
Américain né à Florence, mort à Londres, Sargent voyagea beaucoup et notamment en Espagne…
