Two Fragonard (son) paintings join the collections in Pau
9/7/26 - Acquisitions - Pau, Musée national du château - It is a two-act play, a perfectly orchestrated drama by an inventive artist who abandoned the troubadour genre he loved so much in favour of scenes that will make his Napoleonic works fade into the background (see the news item of 16/11/22), since here we are at the heart of the Bourbon Restoration. Two fine paintings (ill. 1 and 2) by Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard have thus been able to join the Pau institution after being brought together by the Talabardon & Gautier gallery, which unveiled them — on the occasion of its winter 2024 exhibition (see the news item of 25/11/24) — and then presented them at TEFAF Maastricht.
