The Musée Jean-Jacques Henner launches a fundraising campaign for Salomé

All the versions of this article: English , français

19/9/24 - Fundraising - Paris, Musée Jean-Jacques Henner - Salome may have brought about the death of John the Baptist, but she was merely her mother’s instrument. The saint had dared to condemn the second marriage of Herodias to Herod because of their family ties. Fearful Herod did not dare condemn him to death. But the troubling Salome danced for him; bewitched, he promised to give her anything she asked for. Driven by her mother’s fury, she demanded the prophet’s head on a platter. The story is told in the three Synoptic Gospels and in John’s Gospel.
