27/5/26 - Acquisition - Paris, Musée du Louvre - The recent announcement of the arrival at the Louvre of the BVRB commode (see the news item of 16/4/26) completed a (long) campaign to acquire “national treasures” from the collections of the French branch of the Rothschild family. Initiated in the spring of 2023, when Christie’s was preparing to disperse them in several sales in New York, it aroused both hopes and anxieties among lovers of heritage, who could only rejoice at its favourable outcome. We are, however, still awaiting news of the Léonard Limosin dish, whose destination is different (see the news item of 20/2/26).
