		<description>&lt;p&gt;Peintre de l'ouest am&#233;ricain, consid&#233;r&#233; comme l'un des meilleurs paysagistes de son &#233;poque, Robert Seldon Duncanson, artiste autodidacte n&#233; d'un p&#232;re am&#233;ricain et d'une m&#232;re afro-am&#233;ricaine affranchie, rencontra pourtant nombre d'obstacles. Influenc&#233; par la premi&#232;re g&#233;n&#233;ration de l'Hudson River School, et plus particuli&#232;rement par Thomas Cole, il peignit des paysages sauvages&lt;/p&gt;

		<description>&lt;p&gt;L'Amon Carter Museum of American Art a r&#233;cemment annonc&#233; l'acquisition d'une &#339;uvre de Robert Seldon Duncanson (1821-1872) pr&#233;sent&#233; comme le premier artiste afro-am&#233;ricain de renomm&#233;e internationale. Intitul&#233; &lt;i&gt;Les Grottes&lt;/i&gt; et peint en 1869, le tableau appartenait au r&#233;v&#233;rend Richard Sutton Rust (1815&#8211;1906), pasteur m&#233;thodiste, dans la famille duquel il est rest&#233; jusqu'&#224; son achat par le mus&#233;e en 2012 qui l'expose au public depuis le 4 mai dernier.&lt;/p&gt;

		<description>&lt;p&gt;Artiste autodidacte afro-am&#233;ricain, Robert Seldon Duncanson fut c&#233;l&#232;bre pour ses paysages dans la mouvance de l'Hudson River School, influenc&#233;s par les &#339;uvres de Thomas Cole qui d&#233;clina notamment les &#233;tapes d'une vie humaine dans Le Voyage de la vie (1842), s&#233;rie que Moran a probablement vue. Moins connues sont ses natures mortes r&#233;alis&#233;es dans les ann&#233;es 1840. La National Gallery de Washington, qui ne poss&#232;de pas de paysage du peintre, a en revanche acquis en d&#233;cembre 2011 une pyramide de poire, pommes, raisins, noix, noisettes et cacahu&#232;tes&lt;/p&gt;
